Julien Sublet’s obsession with the guitar began at just seven years old in Geneva, Switzerland. Born in Geneva and raised in Péron, France, he first pursued his love of woodworking through formal training in cabinetmaking, developing the precision, patience, and sensitivity to materials that would later define his instruments. After enrolling at the National School of Lutherie in Quebec City, Sublet found both his calling and his home. Today, he builds each guitar by hand in Quebec, blending the discipline of fine European woodworking with the tonal ideals of the modern North American acoustic guitar.

The Julien Sublet OM C in Moon Spruce and African Blackwood is a gorgeous expression of that philosophy. Its graceful Orchestra Model body is given a bold contemporary profile through a dramatic Florentine cutaway, while the sweeping arm rest and rib rest soften the silhouette and make the guitar exceptionally comfortable against the player. Sublet’s design work feels architectural yet organic, with every curve, line, and contrasting material contributing to a beautifully unified whole.

The pale, delicately figured Moon Spruce soundboard is surrounded by ebony bindings and vivid fuchsia purflings that trace the guitar’s every contour. Against the natural spruce, those flashes of color appear almost illuminated. The segmented rosette combines dark African Blackwood with fiery dyed burl, creating a striking geometric mosaic around the soundhole. Bashkin style dyed burl fingerboard inlays continue that visual language along the ebony fingerboard, while a segmented dyed burl backstrip glows against the deep brown and black grain of the African Blackwood back and sides. Even the understated African Blackwood headstock veneer and black chrome Gotoh 510 tuning machines feel perfectly chosen, completing an aesthetic that is daring, elegant, and unmistakably Sublet.

African Blackwood brings density, power, and a beautifully polished overtone structure, with deep authority in the bass and remarkable definition throughout the upper register. Together, they give this OM C the ingredients for a voice that is articulate and richly dimensional, with excellent separation, generous sustain, and the dynamic range to reward everything from delicate fingerstyle work to a more forceful attack.

The 14 fret OM C body and 25.4 inch scale provide familiar balance and energy, while the Florentine cutaway offers effortless access to the highest reaches of the ebony fingerboard. A Honduran Mahogany neck contributes warmth and stability, and the carved arm rest and rib rest allow the instrument to settle naturally against the body. With a 1 3/4 inch bone nut, 2 1/4 inch bridge spacing, bone saddle, ebony bridge, and ebony bridge pins, the playing dimensions are ideally suited to expressive fingerstyle technique while remaining versatile enough for a broad range of musical approaches. Black chrome Gotoh 510 tuning machines provide precise, dependable operation, and the guitar is protected by a Cross Rock Ultralight fiberglass case.
