Lars Rasmussen has been building steel-string acoustics full-time since 2006 from a solo workshop in the rural village of Fastlycke, in southern Sweden. He apprenticed under Dana Bourgeois and later studied voicing with Ervin Somogyi, and that training shows in guitars that blend a flatpicker’s power with a fingerstylist’s clarity. Every instrument is built one at a time by Lars himself, in very small numbers, and Rasmussen owners tend to hold on to them, so they rarely turn up on the used market.
The Model C is the centerpiece, an OM-sized guitar with a 25.5" scale, 14 frets to the body, and an optional Florentine cutaway. Lars also builds the Model S and the smaller Model O. He selects his master grade alpine spruce tops in person from Swiss, Austrian, and Italian suppliers, and pairs them with Madagascar or Brazilian rosewood, mahogany, or maple. Details include a Honduran mahogany neck, ebony fretboard and bindings, hide glue construction, nitro lacquer, an abalone rosette, Scheller tuners, and a bone nut and saddle. The result is a tone that stays balanced between a strong fundamental and a clean bloom of overtones, with sparkling trebles and clarity all over the fretboard.
If you are looking for a boutique Scandinavian acoustic with serious pedigree, a Rasmussen is one of the rarest and most rewarding builds you can play. Contact Eddie’s Guitars to ask about Rasmussen availability or to set up an appointment to play one.
