The Iris WE is the newest model to join the Iris lineup, an orchestra model with a familiar and enduring body shape, named in honor of longtime Iris employee Will Ehster. More than simply lending his initials to the instrument, Ehster played a meaningful role in its design, helping shape a guitar that feels deeply connected to the Iris tradition while bringing a fresh personality to the family. Graceful, comfortable, and beautifully proportioned, the WE carries an understated vintage spirit that feels instantly inviting.
An Adirondack spruce top gives the WE a strong and expressive voice, with excellent headroom, crisp articulation, and the ability to respond dynamically to both a light touch and a more forceful attack. Scalloped Adirondack spruce bracing allows the top to move freely, while Indian rosewood back and sides contribute depth, warmth, and a rich harmonic complexity. Its orchestra body offers an articulate balance across the strings, with focused trebles, a full but controlled bass response, and the versatility to move naturally between fingerstyle, flatpicking, and accompaniment.
The visual presentation is classic Iris, simple, honest, and beautifully executed. Ivoroid body binding frames the natural grain of the Adirondack spruce and Indian rosewood, while black, white, and black top purfling and a matching rosette provide crisp vintage inspired detail. An Indian rosewood fingerboard with a 16 inch radius, blind fret slots, and small plastic dot markers continues the restrained aesthetic, joined by an Indian rosewood bar bridge with slanted pin holes and off white bridge pins. The headstock is finished with the Iris logo and Golden Age relic brass tuners with off white buttons, giving the guitar the character of a cherished instrument from another era.
A mahogany neck with a comfortable C shape carve, 25.5 inch scale length, 1 3/4 inch nut width, and generous 2 5/16 inch bridge spacing gives the WE an open and accommodating feel in the hands. The bolt on mortise and tenon neck joint provides a practical and proven foundation, while a bone nut and saddle support clarity and sustain. Weighing just 3 pounds 15 ounces and accompanied by a hard shell case, the Iris WE is a light, responsive, and wonderfully musical new design that feels less like an introduction and more like a guitar that has always belonged in the Iris catalog.
