The Iris JB in Reclaimed Redwood and Indian Rosewood is one of those guitars that manages to feel rooted in another era while bringing something genuinely distinctive to the table. Iris has an uncanny ability to capture the loose, soulful character we associate with great old American acoustics, and here that philosophy is paired with a decidedly more unusual selection of tonewoods. The result is a guitar that looks understated and traditional at first glance, yet possesses a voice all its own.

At the center of this guitar is its Reclaimed Redwood top. Redwood is prized for its ability to respond almost instantly to the player, offering much of the warmth and complexity associated with Cedar while retaining a wonderful sense of clarity and dimensionality. Using reclaimed material makes the choice even more compelling. This is wood that has already lived a life before becoming the soundboard of an instrument, and there is something beautifully appropriate about putting it to work again in a guitar whose design celebrates the sounds and sensibilities of the past.

Pairing that Redwood with Indian Rosewood back and sides gives the JB an expansive and colorful voice. Rosewood contributes depth, sustain, and harmonic richness, while the Redwood keeps the response quick and expressive. Scalloped Adirondack Spruce bracing provides a strong but lively foundation underneath it all. The result is a wonderfully responsive guitar with a deep bottom end, lush overtones, and a sweetness through the trebles that makes individual notes hang in the air. It can sound big and authoritative when pushed, but there is an intimacy to the JB that rewards a lighter touch just as readily.

The aesthetic is pure Iris. Ivoroid binding frames the body, while simple B/W/B top purfling and a matching B/W/B rosette keep everything tasteful and beautifully restrained. Small plastic fingerboard dots and the Iris Flower headstock logo continue the vintage inspired theme without overwhelming the natural beauty of the Redwood and Rosewood. This is a guitar that does not need elaborate decoration to make an impression. The woods and the silhouette do the talking.

A Mahogany neck with a comfortable C Shape carve is paired with an Indian Rosewood fingerboard featuring a 16 inch radius and blind fret slots. The Indian Rosewood bar bridge incorporates slanted pin holes and traditional off white plastic bridge pins, while a bone nut and saddle provide an excellent foundation for energy transfer between the strings and body. Golden Age Relic Brass tuning machines with off white buttons complete the old school visual vocabulary beautifully.

The JB features a bolt on mortise and tenon neck joint, 25 inch scale length, 1 3/4 inch nut width, and generous 2 5/16 inch spacing at the bridge. At only 3 pounds 12 ounces, it has that wonderfully light and alive feeling that immediately suggests a guitar built to move with the strings rather than fight against them. A hard shell case is included.

What makes this particular Iris JB so appealing is the meeting of two worlds. Its construction, appointments, and feel speak unmistakably to the great American guitars of decades past, while the Reclaimed Redwood and Indian Rosewood combination gives it a richer and more individual voice. It is warm, open, resonant, and deeply musical, with the kind of personality that makes you want to keep playing just to hear what the next chord will give you.
