The Huss & Dalton 000 SP in Dark Forest Century Cypress and Figured Black Walnut is a beautifully expressive instrument, rich with natural character and steeped in the understated elegance of traditional acoustic design. Its Century Cypress soundboard comes from reclaimed timber that spent part of its history submerged, naturally preserved before being recovered and given an entirely new life in the hands of Huss & Dalton. The top displays a gorgeous range of honey, amber, olive, and smoky brown hues, giving the guitar an earthy, almost weathered beauty that immediately hints at the story held within the wood.
Century Cypress is wonderfully light and responsive, with a quick attack, dry clarity, and an open quality that makes the guitar feel seasoned from its very first notes. Paired with Figured Black Walnut, its voice gains warmth, depth, and a distinctly woody sweetness. Walnut brings much of the fundamental strength and directness associated with mahogany, but adds greater harmonic color, a rounder low end, and a soft shimmer through the upper register. The result is a voice that feels intimate beneath a light touch yet surprisingly expansive when driven, with exceptional balance, effortless articulation, and a warm bloom that surrounds every note.
Huss & Dalton’s radius top construction gives the guitar a beautifully dynamic and energetic response. Adirondack Spruce bracing joined with hot hide glue allows the body to behave as a remarkably unified system, translating even the smallest movement of the strings into sound. The compact 000 body and 24.9 inch scale create a supple, inviting feel, while the 1 3/4 inch nut and 2 5/16 inch bridge spacing provide plenty of room for expressive fingerstyle playing. At just 3 pounds 14 ounces, the guitar feels light, alive, and eager in the hands.
The Figured Black Walnut back and sides are stunning, alive with ribbons of curl and shifting waves of chocolate brown, copper, and warm amber. Curly Maple bindings trace the body, fingerboard, and headstock with a glowing contrast that beautifully frames the darker woods. Rope purfling around the top and soundhole introduces a refined vintage character, while the herringbone backstrip creates an elegant line through the center of the richly figured back.
An Ebony fingerboard and pyramid bridge bring traditional visual authority, complemented by delicate Mother of Pearl slotted square inlays. The slotted headstock is faced with Figured Claro Walnut and fitted with nickel Waverly tuning machines, giving the guitar an unmistakably classic profile. A tortoise pickguard completes the presentation with just the right touch of old world warmth.
Protected by a Huss & Dalton tweed hardshell case, this 000 SP is a guitar of exceptional beauty and remarkable musical depth. Its reclaimed Century Cypress top provides immediacy, openness, and sensitivity, while the Figured Black Walnut adds warmth, complexity, and a deeply lyrical voice. It is light, responsive, visually unforgettable, and capable of producing a sound far larger and more immersive than its graceful proportions would ever suggest.
