The Gallagher Provenir Parlor represents an exciting new chapter for one of America’s most historic guitar makers. Under the ownership of David Mathis, Gallagher is expanding upon its remarkable legacy with a fresh and deeply thoughtful point of view. While the Gallagher name has long been synonymous with the power, clarity and authority demanded by bluegrass, country, western and folk musicians, the brand new Provenir Series turns its attention toward the fingerstyle player. Light construction, responsive body shapes and intentional tonewood combinations give these guitars an intimate voice that feels immediate, expressive and alive beneath the hands.
This Provenir Parlor pairs a Western Red Cedar soundboard with a breathtaking set of Tamarind back and sides. Cedar gives the guitar a warm, sensitive and beautifully developed voice from the very first touch, responding effortlessly to the lightest articulation. The compact Parlor body and 12 fret neck joint encourage an open, active response, while Tamarind contributes definition, color and a rich harmonic complexity. Individual notes emerge with clarity and dimension, yet bloom into one another with a lyrical sweetness that makes the guitar especially compelling for fingerstyle arrangements, delicate accompaniment and nuanced solo playing. Its 24.9 inch scale adds a relaxed, supple feel, making expressive bends, vibrato and intricate fretting remarkably inviting.
Visually, this is a gorgeous and distinctive instrument. The sunburst follows the graceful curves of the Cedar top, moving from a warm amber center into deep shades of tobacco and burgundy around the perimeter. Black and white purfling traces the body with understated precision, while Rosewood binding creates a warm, organic frame. A Rosewood ring rosette and richly mottled brown tortoise pickguard complete the top with a restrained vintage elegance. The Tamarind back is genuinely spectacular, displaying broad fields of pale golden figure divided by dramatic dark chocolate heartwood through its center. A Rosewood and Maple backstrip provides a refined dividing line while allowing the extraordinary natural character of the wood to remain the focal point.
The Tamarind headstock veneer carries that visual language forward and is crowned by Gallagher’s Rosewood Provenir fleur de lis inlay. Mother of Pearl Provenir inlays bring a graceful touch of ornamentation to the Rosewood fingerboard, while the Rosewood pyramid bridge lends the guitar a timeless, lightly built appearance. Nickel Waverly tuning machines with Snakewood buttons are both elegant and mechanically superb, and bone bridge pins with black dots complete the traditional presentation.
The Mahogany neck features a comfortable Soft V profile, a 14 inch fingerboard radius and medium frets. A 1 3/4 inch nut width and generous 2 1/4 inch bridge spacing give the picking hand ample room for clean articulation, while the short scale keeps the overall feel relaxed and fluid.
