The Gallagher Provenir Grand Auditorium represents a beautiful new direction for one of America’s most historic guitar makers. Under the ownership of David Mathis, Gallagher is building upon its remarkable legacy while exploring a lighter, more responsive and deeply expressive style of instrument. Although the Gallagher name has long been associated with the power and clarity demanded by bluegrass, country, western and folk musicians, the new Provenir Series turns its attention toward the fingerstyle player. Responsive construction, versatile body shapes and thoughtfully chosen tonewood pairings allow these guitars to reveal extraordinary nuance, color and sensitivity. Showcased at the 2026 Fretboard Summit, this Provenir Grand Auditorium offers a compelling look at Mathis’s growing influence on the future of Gallagher Guitars.

At its heart is a European Moon Spruce soundboard paired with Madagascar Rosewood back and sides. Harvested during the dormant winter months according to traditional forestry practices, Moon Spruce is prized for its favorable strength, stability and responsiveness. Tonally, it offers a beautiful combination of warmth and clarity, with a smooth attack, generous dynamic range and an elegant sweetness through the upper register. It responds readily to a delicate touch, yet possesses enough strength and headroom to remain composed when played with greater intensity.

Madagascar Rosewood brings depth, richness and harmonic complexity to that clear and responsive foundation. Its bass is full but controlled, its trebles are colorful and sustaining, and its overtones surround each note with a lush sense of dimension. Within the balanced proportions of the Grand Auditorium body, these tonewoods produce a voice that feels both expansive and exceptionally well organized. Individual notes remain distinct within intricate arrangements, while chords bloom with warmth, depth and a lingering halo of overtones.

Light construction allows the body to react quickly to subtle changes in touch. Softly played passages feel intimate and immediate, while a stronger right hand draws out impressive volume, projection and dynamic authority. The Grand Auditorium format also gives the guitar tremendous versatility, providing the balance and separation desired by fingerstyle players along with enough power and low end presence for flatpicking, rhythmic accompaniment and alternate tunings. It is a guitar that feels wonderfully alive beneath the hands, translating small variations in attack into meaningful changes in color and expression.

Visually, this Provenir is elegant, dramatic and beautifully cohesive. The sunburst finish moves from a glowing amber center into rich shades of tobacco and dark brown around the perimeter, accentuating the graceful lines of the Grand Auditorium body. Fine black, white and black top purfling creates a crisp border, while Ebony binding frames both the body and headstock with understated precision. An Ebony arm bevel softens the edge beneath the picking arm, adding genuine playing comfort while giving the instrument a distinctly contemporary refinement.

A tiled Madagascar Rosewood rosette, bordered with Maple and Ebony purfling, creates an intricate focal point around the soundhole. Its natural colors echo the remarkable Madagascar Rosewood back and sides, tying the entire visual composition together. The richly figured headstock veneer is also Madagascar Rosewood and is crowned by a Mother of Pearl Provenir fleur de lis. Coordinating Mother of Pearl Provenir inlays travel across the Ebony fingerboard, while an Ebony bridge, a miniature teardrop tortoise pickguard and bone pins with black dots complete the guitar with tasteful restraint.

The Mahogany neck features a comfortable C profile, medium frets and a 14 inch fingerboard radius. A 1 3/4 inch nut width and 2 1/4 inch bridge spacing provide ample room for precise fingerstyle articulation, while the 25.25 inch scale length maintains an ideal balance of string tension, clarity and supple playability. The 14 fret neck joint offers familiar access to the upper register, and Cosmo Black Gotoh 510 Mini tuning machines provide smooth, accurate performance while complementing the guitar’s dark Ebony appointments.

The Provenir Grand Auditorium is a thoughtful expression of David Mathis’s vision for the next generation of Gallagher Guitars. It preserves the strength, musical integrity and handcrafted character upon which Gallagher built its reputation, but channels those qualities through a more intimate, responsive and harmonically adventurous voice. Warm, clear, balanced and richly expressive, this Moon Spruce and Madagascar Rosewood Grand Auditorium is equally capable of subtle fingerstyle work and powerful accompaniment. Guitar number 4545 includes a hardshell case.
