There is something wonderfully compelling about a guitar that carries the spirit of another century while offering an entirely fresh musical experience. The Blind Guitars B-24L does exactly that. With its sweeping Ditson inspired silhouette, gorgeous sunburst, and extraordinary pairing of Adirondack spruce and old growth Brazilian rosewood, this new model brings a larger voice to one of Virgile Pilon’s most distinctive designs. It is an instrument with old soul, unmistakable individuality, and the capacity to turn a simple phrase into something expansive.

Working in Anglet, France, Pilon brings a background in instrument repair to his craft, an education that offered an intimate look at how guitars are built, how they age, and what makes their construction successful. His inspiration reaches into the acoustic blues of the 1920s and 1930s, yet his approach leaves ample room for contemporary ideas and the needs of individual musicians. That relationship between historical character and personal expression gives Blind Guitars its captivating identity. These are instruments shaped by a love of where the guitar has been and a curiosity about where it can still go.

The B-24L expands the familiar B-24 concept in two meaningful ways. Where the standard model features a 15 inch lower bout and a 24.75 inch scale, this larger version stretches to a 16 inch lower bout and a 25.5 inch scale. Together, those changes provide more power, greater headroom, and longer sustain when the music calls for it. The modified Ditson Style 11 body, paired with a 13 fret neck joint, retains its wonderfully distinctive proportions while giving the player a broader canvas for everything from intimate fingerstyle passages to assertive flatpicking and sweeping accompaniment.

Adirondack spruce and old growth Brazilian rosewood are a fitting foundation for that ambition. Adirondack is prized for the strength and clarity it can bring to a forceful attack, while Brazilian rosewood is celebrated for its harmonic richness and lingering resonance. Here, the pairing promises the kind of depth that makes a full chord feel orchestral, with room for individual voices to emerge within the bloom. The larger format gives that tonal palette space to unfold, inviting a player to move from a quiet melodic thought into something commanding without losing the thread of the music.

Visually, the sunburst lends the Adirondack top a beautiful sense of warmth and age, complementing the historical character of the body shape. Flamed koa bindings frame the instrument with their own natural movement and glow, set against crisp black, white, and black purflings. A Brazilian rosewood rosette keeps the soundhole treatment rooted in the beauty of the wood itself, while partial flamed koa backstrip inlays bring a distinctive decorative rhythm to the rosewood back. The result is richly detailed, with each material contributing to a cohesive and deeply inviting whole.

The flamed European maple neck carries its own sunburst, extending the visual theme beyond the body. Its matte finish offers a comfortable tactile counterpoint to the gloss nitrocellulose body lacquer. Amara ebony forms both the fingerboard and bridge, with a brass inlay at the 12th fret and offset dot markers adding a quietly contemporary signature. An ebony headplate with Amara ebony detail continues that interplay of texture and geometry, while a flamed koa rear headplate makes the reverse of the instrument equally worth admiring. Gold Schertler tuning machines with ebony buttons provide a beautifully chosen finishing touch.

A 16 inch fingerboard radius, 1.77 inch or 45 mm nut width, and 2.24 inch or 57 mm bridge spacing offer generous room for articulate fretting and expressive picking. Medium phosphor bronze frets and a bone nut and saddle complete the playing appointments. At 4 pounds, 9 ounces, the B24L brings its larger proportions together in an instrument that feels thoughtfully considered from end to end.

For the player drawn to the romance of early acoustic guitars but eager for a wider dynamic range, the Blind Guitars B-24L offers a beautiful meeting of those desires. Its shape remembers the past, its details speak unmistakably in Pilon’s own voice, and its larger body and longer scale invite the music to reach further.
