The 2021 Collings 002HA T is a beautifully distilled expression of vintage acoustic guitar design, pairing a baked Adirondack spruce top with East Indian rosewood back and sides in Collings’ revered Traditional Series construction. It is an instrument shaped by history, but brought to life with the precision, refinement and consistency that have defined Collings for decades.
The late Bill Collings built his reputation through an uncompromising devotion to detail. His exacting standards transformed a small Texas workshop into one of the most respected guitar companies in the world, and his influence remains deeply embedded in every instrument carrying the Collings name. The Traditional Series honors that legacy while exploring a warmer, more relaxed and distinctly prewar inspired voice.
With its compact 00 body, 12 fret neck joint and tapered slotted square peghead, the 002HA T captures the graceful proportions of classic early steel string guitars. The 12 fret design positions the bridge closer to the center of the lower bout, allowing the top to move with wonderful freedom. Its short 24 7/8 inch scale gives the strings an inviting suppleness, while the wide 2 5/16 inch bridge spacing and 1 3/4 inch bone nut provide a spacious, comfortable platform for fingerstyle playing. The result is a guitar with an intimate feel, immediate response and a voice that can be remarkably expansive for its size.
The baked Adirondack spruce top offers the headroom, clarity and fundamental strength associated with red spruce, along with an aged character that feels open and responsive from the first note. East Indian rosewood lends depth, harmonic color and a beautifully lingering sustain. Collings’ custom Traditional Series prewar scalloped X bracing, constructed from Sitka spruce without a tongue brace, encourages a freer and more relaxed response. The guitar speaks easily beneath a light touch, yet retains enough authority and definition to handle a more assertive attack without losing its composure.
Its Honduran mahogany neck is carved to Collings’ Traditional profile, measuring .862 inch at the first fret and 1.032 inches at the ninth. The ebony fingerboard features a 14 to 26 inch compound radius and elegant gold mother of pearl short diamond and square inlays. An ebony pyramid bridge, bone drop in saddle and ivoroid pins with black dots complete the functional appointments, while the fully adjustable truss rod and medium 18 percent nickel silver frets provide modern reliability.
Visually, the 002HA T is understated and deeply elegant. Ivoroid body binding is framed by small brown herringbone purfling, while a custom wood rosette and Style 2 zipper backstrip add warmth and vintage character. The stained exotic ebony peghead veneer carries a gold mother of pearl Collings logo, and the tapered slotted headstock is fitted with nickel Waverly tuners featuring a precise 16:1 ratio. A tortoise pickguard provides the final traditional touch. The body and neck are finished in Collings’ Vintage Satin ultra thin nitrocellulose lacquer, allowing the wood to resonate freely while giving the guitar the softly aged appearance of a cherished old instrument.
The body measures 19 3/8 inches long, 4 inches deep and 14 1/4 inches across the lower bout, with a total length of 38 inches. At only 3 pounds 11 ounces, it feels exceptionally light, alive and responsive in the hands.
This used 2021 Collings 002HA T remains in excellent condition. It shows only very light fret wear, light pickguard scuffs, a small ding in the top and a few light scuffs in the back finish. It includes its deluxe TKL hardshell case.
Elegant, resonant and effortlessly playable, this 002HA T captures the soul of a great 12 fret guitar while delivering the impeccable craftsmanship and musical refinement for which Collings is celebrated.
