The James Tyler Tylerbastar in Black Shmear is everything that made James Tyler a legend distilled into one unapologetically bold instrument. The alder body delivers a balanced, punchy foundation, enhanced by rear routing and sculpted arm and tummy contours that make this guitar feel effortless against the body. Finished in Tyler’s unmistakable semi gloss Black Shmear, it looks raw, aggressive, and unmistakably high end without trying too hard.

The roasted birdseye maple neck is a standout, offering stability, snap, and a silky broken in feel right out of the case. Paired with an ebony fingerboard and classic white mother of pearl dot inlays, the neck feels fast, precise, and luxurious. The standard ’59 neck carve strikes that perfect middle ground, full enough for expressive playing yet comfortable for long sessions. Wide tall frets and a 1 11/16 inch nut width give you room to dig in while maintaining accuracy across the board.

The HCS JTS5500 pickups in the neck and middle deliver clarity, warmth, and dynamic response, while the Super bridge pickup brings power, cut, and authority when it is time to push forward. A 5 way switch works alongside volume, boost, and tone controls, all tied into a powerful midboost preamp with preamp bypass. Add series and parallel options, neck and bridge combinations, and a push pull tone control, and you have a guitar that can move from refined studio tones to explosive stage sounds without hesitation.

Hardware is equally uncompromising. Hipshot locking tuners provide rock solid tuning stability, while the G2TS bridge ensures exceptional sustain, intonation, and feel. At just 7 pounds 10 ounces, the Tylerbastar is perfectly balanced and comfortable for extended playing.
