Few modern builders capture the soul of a pre-war flat-top quite like Dale Fairbanks. After decades behind the bench studying and recreating the great American acoustics of the 1930s, Dale has developed a reputation for building instruments that feel uncannily alive in your hands. This F-35 1934 Jumbo is a perfect example, marrying the dry, open voice of a vintage giant with the refinement and precision only a master luthier can deliver.

Built around a hand-voiced Adirondack Spruce top and Adirondack Red Spruce braces, this jumbo has the kind of headroom and explosive response that flatpickers spend a lifetime searching for. The top wears a gorgeous full-body sunburst, fading from a warm amber center to deep tobacco edges that give the guitar the unmistakable look of a well-preserved pre-war original. Against that finish, the bold firestripe pickguard practically glows, adding exactly the right amount of old-school attitude.

The back and sides are crafted from extraordinary Plum Pudding Mahogany, whose richly figured grain brings a darker, more dramatic appearance than standard mahogany. In the attached photo, you can see the subtle swirling figure beneath the deep reddish-brown finish, giving the guitar a striking visual depth without sacrificing the woody, dry fundamental that makes mahogany such a beloved tonewood. Paired with the Adirondack top, the result is a voice that is huge but focused: strong, throaty mids, a powerful low end, and trebles that cut cleanly without ever becoming harsh.

The 1934 Jumbo body depth gives this F-35 an especially authoritative presence, with a wide-open, room-filling voice that feels effortless under even a light touch. At the same time, the 24.75-inch scale softens the attack just enough to make the guitar feel broken-in from the very first chord. Whether you're digging in with a flatpick or playing fingerstyle, there is an ease and elasticity to the response that makes the instrument difficult to put down.

The neck is carved from Honduran Mahogany and shaped into Fairbanks' comfortable Easy V profile, offering just enough vintage character without ever feeling bulky. Combined with the 1 3/4-inch nut width and 2 5/16-inch bridge spacing, it provides a spacious, relaxed feel that works beautifully for both fingerpickers and players who want plenty of room for articulate right-hand work. The Madagascar Rosewood fingerboard and bridge add clarity and snap, while MOP dot inlays and ivoroid fingerboard binding keep the look clean, classic, and understated.

Every detail on this guitar reinforces its vintage-inspired personality. The ebony headstock veneer is fitted with nickel Waverly tuning machines topped by grain ivoroid buttons, a small but perfect touch that looks exactly right against the sunburst neck and dark headstock. Ivoroid body binding frames the jumbo outline beautifully and gives the entire instrument an elegant, pre-war silhouette.

At just 3 lbs 10 oz, this F-35 is remarkably light for a jumbo, and that light build translates directly into the immediacy and resonance of its voice. It comes protected in a TLK hardshell case, ready for the studio, the stage, or the next player who has been waiting for a truly exceptional modern heirloom.
