Showcased at Fretboard Summit 2026, the Iris MS 00 12 Fret is a compact, deeply expressive acoustic with the warmth and personality of a treasured vintage instrument. Its name is a nod to Mark Stutman, the renowned vintage Gibson expert who helped design the model and shape its unmistakably old soul. With its intimate 00 body, slotted headstock, graceful sunburst, and understated appointments, the MS 00 feels wonderfully familiar, yet carries a voice and identity all its own.
The European spruce top brings clarity, sweetness, and a beautifully nuanced response, while figured koa back and sides add focus, warmth, and a shimmering harmonic character. Scalloped Adirondack spruce bracing gives the guitar an unusually lively foundation, allowing it to respond effortlessly to a gentle fingerstyle touch while retaining the strength and definition needed for a confident flatpick. The 12 fret neck joint places the bridge closer to the most active area of the soundboard, contributing to a voice that is open, woody, and surprisingly full for such a comfortable instrument.
Visually, the MS 00 embraces a restrained vintage elegance. Black binding frames the figured koa, while black, white, and black purfling and a matching rosette provide crisp contrast against the sunburst European spruce top. A slotted headstock carries the Iris flower logo and Golden Age relic brass tuners with off white buttons, completing its beautifully aged character. Satin nitrocellulose finishes across the top, back, and sides preserve the natural texture of the woods and give the guitar a soft, inviting appearance.
The mahogany neck features a comfortable C shaped carve, paired with a 16 inch radius Indian rosewood fingerboard with blind fret slots and small plastic dot inlays. An Indian rosewood bar bridge with slanted pin holes, bone nut and saddle, and off white bridge pins continue the traditional aesthetic. Its 24 3/4 inch scale length offers a relaxed, supple feel, while the 1 3/4 inch nut and 2 5/16 inch bridge spacing provide generous room for expressive fingerstyle playing. Built with a bolt on mortise and tenon neck joint and weighing just 3 pounds, 5 ounces, the Iris MS 00 12 Fret is light in the hands, rich in character, and alive with the kind of musical intimacy that makes a small bodied guitar impossible to put down. A hard shell case is included.
