Raised by an art teacher, Spohn developed an early fascination with drawing, design, woodworking, and the relationship between beauty and function. He learned the fundamentals of guitar making from Thomas Ochs before formally studying luthiery at the Westsächsische Hochschule in Markneukirchen, one of Germany’s historic centers of instrument making. His approach was further shaped by Raymond Kraut and the responsive guitar philosophy of Ervin Somogyi.
