The 1996 Goodall Standard is a beautiful example from a special period in the company’s history, when James Goodall and his small team of talented craftspeople were building guitars in Hawaii. Nearly three decades later, this instrument carries the warmth, character, and maturity that only time and thoughtful playing can create. Its Sitka spruce top has opened up beautifully, delivering a voice that is rich, expansive, and remarkably responsive. It comes alive under a light touch with exceptional detail and sensitivity, yet retains an abundance of headroom when driven with a stronger attack, making it equally rewarding for delicate fingerstyle passages, melodic flatpicking, and powerful rhythm work.

The figured koa back and sides give the guitar a striking visual presence while contributing clarity, focus, and a beautifully balanced harmonic character. Curly maple binding surrounds both the body and fingerboard, complemented by black, maple, and black top purfling. An elegant Agoya shell rosette is framed with matching purfling, creating a refined visual theme that continues through the Mother of Pearl Goodall logo inlaid into the koa headstock veneer. The Hawaiian ohia fingerboard and bridge are especially distinctive appointments, paired with mother of pearl dot inlays and plastic bridge pins with abalone dots.

A Honduran mahogany neck provides a stable and familiar foundation, while the bone nut and saddle help preserve clarity, sustain, and articulation. The guitar is fitted with Gotoh Chrome 381 tuning machines, a clear pickguard, and a metal strap button. Its 25.5 inch scale length, 1.75 inch nut width, and 2.25 inch bridge spacing provide a comfortable and versatile playing platform with ample room for fingerstyle work while remaining natural for flatpicking and chordal playing. At 4 pounds 8 ounces, the guitar feels substantial and beautifully balanced in the hands.

This Goodall is in excellent condition, showing only minor play wear, light finish checking, and light fret wear consistent with careful use. It has been properly set up, plays beautifully, and is ready to continue opening up in the hands of its next owner. Please review the photos closely for any imperfections and reach out with any questions.
