The Froggy Bottom Model F-14 Deluxe is a quiet masterpiece, built with intention, restraint, and a deep respect for tone above all else. This is the kind of guitar that does not shout for attention. It earns it the moment you play the first note.
Michael Millard founded Froggy Bottom with a simple but uncompromising vision: build instruments that serve the music, crafted by a small team of artisans who care about every gram of wood and every joint of glue. Each guitar that leaves the Froggy Bottom workshop reflects that philosophy. Nothing is rushed, nothing is ornamental without purpose, and nothing is built the same way twice. The F-14 Deluxe stands as a perfect expression of that ethos.
The German Spruce top is exquisitely chosen, light and responsive, delivering exceptional clarity, dynamic range, and harmonic complexity. It pairs beautifully with the flamed Koa back and sides, which add warmth, shimmer, and a subtly vocal midrange that blooms as the guitar opens up. Together, they create a voice that is articulate yet lush, equally at home under a light fingerstyle touch or a confident flatpick attack.
Visually, the Deluxe appointments elevate the instrument without ever feeling excessive. The solid peghead is bound and capped with a 4A rosewood overlay, crowned by Froggy Bottom’s iconic abalone frog logo. The ebony fingerboard carries 20 frets and features the #3 pattern, with elegant fleur de lis inlays at the 5th, 7th, 9th, 12th, and 15th frets, all rendered in glowing green abalone. An abalone rosette and matching backstrip tie the design together with understated brilliance.
Koa bindings, koa grafts, and a koa heel cap provide a seamless visual flow from headstock to heel, highlighting the natural beauty of the wood rather than competing with it. The clear high gloss finish allows every detail of the German Spruce and flamed Koa to speak for itself. Hardware is kept tasteful and traditional, with nickel Waverly tuning machines and a classic pyramid bridge anchoring the strings with elegance.
Playability is superb and immediately familiar. The 14 fret neck joint, 25.25 inch scale length, 1 3/4 inch nut width, and 2 5/16 inch bridge spacing offer comfort, balance, and precision for serious players. Ebony bridge pins and end pin with Paua abalone dots add a final refined touch, while the imitation tortoise pickguard is included to preserve the top without compromising aesthetics. Strung with John Pearse Light 80/20 strings, the guitar feels alive and responsive right out of the case.
At just 4 pounds 7 ounces, this F-14 Deluxe is remarkably light in the hands, contributing to its immediacy and sensitivity. It is an instrument built by people who listen closely, to wood, to players, and to music itself. The result is a guitar that feels personal, soulful, and deeply musical, a true Froggy Bottom in every sense.
