The Collings OM2A Hill Country in Adirondack spruce and Brazilian rosewood emerges as a rare and radiant testament to the legacy of the late Bill Collings, whose vision reshaped modern lutherie with equal measures of rigor, imagination and relentless pursuit of tonal purity. His influence continues to echo through every hand carved brace and every sculpted curve of this extraordinary instrument, carrying forward his belief that a guitar should speak with clarity, honesty and a voice capable of stirring the deepest corners of the heart. This Hill Country OM stands as a living continuation of that philosophy, yet it also marks a new chapter, one that moves with quiet reverence and unmistakable boldness.

Brazilian rosewood has always been a material of mythic stature for Collings, used sparingly and with the strictest selectivity. Few pieces ever passed the threshold of acceptability for Bill, who insisted that the wood must promise something truly transcendent before it earned a place in the shop. That makes this guitar profoundly uncommon, for it is among the very first Hill Country Series instruments built with genuine Brazilian rosewood. The back and sides shimmer with deep, dark hues and luminous grain lines, creating a visual and tonal presence that feels both ancient and newly awakened. Paired with a resonant Adirondack spruce top, the guitar responds with immediacy, headroom and a glowing harmonic richness that seems to glide effortlessly into the air.

The Hill Country build and voicing bring a distinctive spirit to this OM, shaping the traditional elegance of Collings craftsmanship into a more open, breathing form. The body is bound in ivoroid, giving a gentle frame to the striking tonewoods, while the ebony fingerboard binding offers a shadowed refinement beneath the gold mother of pearl diamonds and squares. The ebony bridge, carved in the classic belly style with wide 2 5/16 inch spacing, anchors the strings with quiet assurance. At the centerline, a two style zipper backstrip offers a touch of vintage grace, mirrored by the hand poured tortoise rosette ring that ties this guitar into the lore of the Hill Country aesthetic, a motif echoed again in the matching pickguard, wedge and heel cap.

The neck, shaped from Honduran mahogany, carries the Hill Country large profile, a full yet inviting silhouette that shifts from a modified C toward a gentle modified V as it rises. The rounded fingerboard edges give the hand a sense of familiarity and welcome, guiding the player naturally toward deeper expression. The square peghead with volute presents a clean face adorned only by the quiet darkness of ebony, the Collings logo hidden on the back as a stamped mark of heritage rather than display. Relic nickel Waverly tuners complete the headstock with a timeless mechanical grace.

Inside the body, Hill Country scalloped X bracing made from Sitka spruce works without a tongue brace, allowing the top to respond with heightened nuance and a luminous tonal bloom. Medium nickel silver frets, a fully adjustable truss rod, an aged bone nut at one and three quarter inches and a drop in aged bone saddle complete the foundation of playability. The ultra thin high gloss nitrocellulose finish on both body and neck allows every vibration to move freely, preserving the lively immediacy of the build.

Measuring fifteen inches across the lower bout, nineteen and one quarter inches in length and four inches in depth, this OM carries elegant proportions and arrives at a total length of thirty nine and three quarter inches. Strung with D’Addario EJ sixteen phosphor bronze strings and weighing four pounds even, it feels alive before a single note is played. The sound that follows is radiant, balanced and touched by the rare power of Brazilian rosewood, responding with warmth, clarity and depth that unfold anew with each passing moment.

Housed in its deluxe hardshell case, this Collings OM2A Hill Country stands not only as an exquisite instrument but as an heirloom level example of the continuing influence of Bill Collings. It honors his legacy while opening a path forward for the Hill Country Series, offering one of the finest and rarest voices Collings has ever released into the world.
