The Collings OM2A Hill Country is the kind of guitar that stops you mid sentence the first time you hit a chord. It is not just a beautiful OM. It is a deeply intentional instrument that reflects everything the late Bill Collings believed about how a great guitar should be built, voiced, and felt in the hands.

Bill Collings was never interested in chasing trends. He was obsessed with consistency, precision, and extracting the maximum musicality out of every piece of wood. The Hill Country series was his late career love letter to vintage tone, created in collaboration with master voicer Julian Lage and the Collings R and D team. These guitars are lighter, more responsive, and more dynamically alive than standard Collings builds, designed to give you that old world openness with modern reliability. The OM2A Hill Country sits right in the sweet spot of that philosophy.

At the heart of this guitar is an Adirondack spruce top paired with East Indian rosewood back and sides. Adirondack brings explosive headroom, clarity, and a dry, powerful fundamental that rewards both a light touch and an aggressive attack. The Indian rosewood adds depth, bloom, and a lush overtone structure that fills out the sound without ever getting muddy. The Hill Country voicing takes this wood pairing to another level, using lighter Sitka spruce scalloped X bracing with no tongue brace to let the top move more freely. The result is a guitar that feels alive under your hands, with faster response, more air in the notes, and a wider dynamic range than a standard OM.

The neck is Honduran mahogany with the Hill Country large profile. It is full but not overly chunky, transitioning from a Modified C to a Modified V with softly rounded fingerboard edges. It fills the hand in a reassuring way and encourages relaxed, confident playing. The 1 3/4 inch aged bone nut and the 14 to 26 inch compound radius ebony fingerboard give you plenty of room for fingerstyle, complex chords, and clean lead work all the way up the neck. Gold mother of pearl short diamond and square inlays add just the right amount of understated elegance.

Every detail on this guitar is purposeful and beautiful. The ebony belly style bridge with 2 5/16 inch spacing, ebony bridge pins and end pin, aged bone saddle, and mortise and tenon hybrid neck joint all work together to maximize energy transfer and sustain. The square peghead with volute is topped with an ebony veneer that carries no logo on the front, only a stamped Collings logo on the back, a quiet nod to old school craftsmanship. Relic nickel Waverly tuners feel smooth and look perfectly at home on a guitar built with this much vintage soul.

Visually, this OM2A Hill Country is refined and elegant. Ivoroid body binding, ebony fingerboard binding, and a 2 style zipper backstrip frame the rosewood beautifully. The hand poured tortoise pickguard is matched to the rosette ring, wedge, and heel cap, creating a cohesive, custom look that feels more like a boutique one off than a production guitar. The ultra thin high gloss nitrocellulose lacquer on both the body and neck lets the wood breathe and vibrate while giving the guitar a deep, luxurious glow.

With a 25 1/2 inch scale length, 15 inch body width, 19 1/4 inch body length, 4 inch depth, and a weight of just 4 pounds 2 ounces, this OM feels incredibly balanced and comfortable. It is equally at home in the lap, on stage, or in the studio, always responding with nuance and power.

Strung with D’Addario EJ 16 strings and housed in a deluxe hardshell case, this Collings OM2A Hill Country is not just an instrument, it is a statement. It represents the final evolution of Bill Collings’ relentless pursuit of tone, feel, and craftsmanship. If you are looking for an OM that delivers vintage soul, modern precision, and an almost addictive musicality, this guitar will not disappoint.
