Built as part of an extraordinary collaboration between master luthier Dana Bourgeois and country superstar Luke Bryan, this Bourgeois Limited Edition Luke Bryan Slope D represents far more than a signature model. It tells a story that began more than a decade ago when Luke invited Dana to visit his Flint Rock Farms in Tennessee. Walking the land together, the two personally tagged select Black Walnut trees growing on Luke’s property, envisioning instruments that could someday be crafted from that very wood. Years later, that shared moment of curiosity and respect for tonewoods became reality in this limited run of only thirty guitars, with this example proudly numbered 10 of 30.
At its heart is an Aged Tone Adirondack Spruce top, paired with back and sides made from Black Walnut harvested at Flint Rock Farms. The Adirondack soundboard is supported by Dana’s legendary Aged Tone torrefied braces, also in Adirondack Spruce, a recipe designed to deliver explosive headroom, dry clarity, and the kind of power flatpickers crave while remaining articulate under a lighter touch. Animal protein glue is used throughout the build, reinforcing the old world construction philosophy that has become a hallmark of Bourgeois instruments.
Visually, the guitar strikes a refined balance between elegance and personal storytelling. Ivoroid binding traces the body, fingerboard, and headstock, complemented by black and ivoroid on end with black top purfling and a single ring ivoroid on end rosette. The Bourgeois contour headstock carries an ebony veneer and is adorned with Luke Bryan custom antler and Flint Rock Farms inlays, along with the mother of pearl Bourgeois logo. The Madagascar Rosewood fretboard and belly bridge add richness and depth, while Luke Bryan antler fingerboard inlays continue the theme with subtle flair. A celluloid pickguard protects the top, and a signature label inside confirms this instrument’s place in the series.
Premium appointments extend to Waverly nickel tuners with ivoroid buttons, ivoroid bridge pins, a satin finished neck for effortless playability, and a high gloss headstock and body finished in Bourgeois’ celebrated Aged Tone treatment. The short 25 inch scale length, 1 23/32 inch nut width, and 2.2 inch bridge spacing create a comfortable and responsive feel that suits both aggressive rhythm work and expressive lead lines. Weighing in at just 4 lb 6 oz, the guitar feels alive in the hands, resonant and immediate.
Offered with its hard case, this Luke Bryan Slope D stands as a rare intersection of craftsmanship, friendship, and provenance. From Dana Bourgeois’ workshop to the fields of Flint Rock Farms, every detail reflects a decade long journey that culminated in one of the most personal and compelling limited editions Bourgeois has ever produced.
