The Fugue by LHT Guitars rises from the bench of Tyler Wells as if it were a vision shaped from light and resonance. The name LHT carries the affectionate meaning of Long Hair Tyler, yet it has come to represent far more than a nickname. It signals a builder whose devotion to the craft borders on the poetic. Tyler’s years working alongside the legendary Tom Ribbecke left a profound mark on his approach to luthiery. From Ribbecke he absorbed a deep respect for the tonal mysteries of carved tops, floating structures and the delicate balance of tension and air. Over time he transformed those lessons into a voice that is unmistakably his own. The Fugue stands as one of the clearest expressions of this voice, a guitar shaped by fearless design, patient hands and rare artistic sensitivity.

The face of the instrument is Alaskan Sitka spruce, selected for its lively responsiveness and its ability to translate the intentions of the player with clarity. The back is a striking mosaic of flamed walnut and flamed maple arranged in a three piece pattern, joined by flamed walnut sides that shimmer softly beneath the gloss nitrocellulose lacquer. A single piece of flamed maple rises from this warm palette to form the neck, its satin hardwax oil finish inviting the hand with effortless comfort. Black ABS binding outlines the body, the fingerboard and the headstock, joined by a procession of white and black purfling that frames the guitar with simple grace.

Beauty deepens in the details. Walnut burl is shaped into the headplate, pickguard and hardware accents, giving the instrument a natural richness that feels both intentional and organic. An ebony fingerboard extends toward the floating ebony bridge and the Ribbecke style hinged tailpiece, where tension is held with quiet composure. Aluminum inlays and position markers glint subtly along the fingerboard, matched by nickel silver frets that encourage expressive touch. At the headstock, Gotoh 510 Mini Cosmo Black tuning machines with ebony buttons complete the aesthetic with a sense of refined purpose.

This Fugue is not content to rest on traditional form. A floating custom parallelogram Kent Armstrong humbucking pickup marked with the LHT logo hovers elegantly above the top, its voice shaped by discreet volume and tone thumb wheels. Body contour side sound holes send the guitar’s breath toward the player, deepening the sense of intimacy. The squared Florentine cutaway brings visual sharpness and effortless upper fret access, while the arm bevel carved into the top softens the silhouette and welcomes long hours in the player’s embrace.

Every structural choice reflects Tyler’s pursuit of stability and musicality. A bone nut partners with a two way truss rod reinforced with carbon fiber for strength. The compound radius fingerboard moves from twelve inches to sixteen, offering both comfort and control. The multiscale length from twenty four point seven to twenty five point seven inches allows each string to speak with balanced authority. The proportions of the body, with its sixteen inch lower bout and two and eleven sixteenths inch depth, work in harmony with the floating architecture to produce a voice that is open, resonant and beautifully articulate. At five pounds and three ounces, the instrument feels alive in the hands without ever feeling heavy.

Completed with a Crossrock fiberglass case fitted with a custom interior, the LHT Fugue in Walnut and Maple is more than a guitar. It is the result of years of study, devotion and curiosity channeled into a single coherent expression. In it one finds the legacy of Ribbecke, the imagination of Long Hair Tyler and the rare beauty that emerges when tradition and innovation are given equal respect.
