The SkyTop Baritone Multi Scale in Dark Forest Ancient Cypress and Flamed Walnut is not just a guitar—it is an acoustic sculpture of sound and innovation, handcrafted with deep respect for both the natural world and the sonic potential of the instrument. Built by luthier Eric Weigeshoff, founder of SkyTop Guitars, this exceptional baritone reflects a visionary approach to guitar design that boldly departs from traditional conventions. Rather than adhering to the familiar formulas of acoustic building, Eric has pioneered a form that prioritizes player experience, tonal depth, and artistic expression.
At the core of Eric’s philosophy is a simple yet radical idea: the sound of a guitar should envelop the player, not just project outward to an audience. That belief is embodied in his distinctive dual player-facing sound ports, which replace the standard front-facing sound hole. These large sculpted openings are carved into the upper bout of the guitar, directing the lush, resonant tones directly toward the player’s ears. The result is an intimate, immersive experience that allows the musician to fully connect with every nuance of the instrument’s voice.
The materials chosen for this guitar are extraordinary, both visually and sonically. The top is crafted from Dark Forest Ancient Cypress, a tonewood carbon dated to be approximately 1,630 years old. This ancient wood imparts a deep, aged resonance that cannot be replicated, producing tones that are rich, complex, and hauntingly beautiful. The back and sides are made from gorgeously figured Flamed Walnut, offering a sweet, balanced response with a strong low end and shimmering overtones. The Flamed Walnut neck continues the theme of organic beauty, matched by a Gabon Ebony fingerboard and pinless bridge, both adding clarity and sustain to the tonal profile.
Ergonomically and visually refined, this guitar features Ebano bindings, elegant black-white-black purflings, and an Ebony armrest bevel that enhances both comfort and aesthetic flow. A Flamed Walnut back strap adds a finishing touch of continuity and craftsmanship. The multi-scale design ranges from 27.5 inches on the bass side to 26.5 inches on the treble, offering excellent intonation, improved tension balance for lower tunings, and a naturally comfortable playing position. The 1 7/8” nut width provides plenty of room for fingerstyle playing or intricate chord work, while the Gotoh 510 tuning machines in Cosmo Black ensure precision and stability.
Weighing just 4 lb 12 oz, this baritone is remarkably lightweight for its size, contributing to its resonance and comfort. It travels safely in a premium TKL Voyager flight case, making it an ideal companion for the studio, stage, or retreat into the woods.
The SkyTop Baritone Multi Scale is more than an acoustic guitar—it is an instrument that invites deep listening, thoughtful composition, and artistic connection. Through the work of Eric Weigeshoff, every detail serves the music, and every note speaks with the voice of the forest and the centuries.
