Drew Heinonen’s work carries the quiet precision and insight he developed while apprenticing with James Olson, one of the great modern luthiers. From Olson, he learned that true craftsmanship lies not only in structure, but in listening—listening to how each piece of wood wants to respond and how each detail contributes to the whole. That approach is clear in this SJ-C, a guitar that feels deliberate, balanced, and deeply musical.

The Western Red Cedar top gives the instrument its warmth and immediacy. Its light, flexible grain responds easily to a gentle touch, producing a voice that is open, clear, and deeply expressive. Cocobolo for the back and sides brings strength and depth, adding sustain and a touch of natural compression that keeps the tone focused. Together, these woods create a sound that is rich and detailed, with a lingering resonance that encourages slower, more thoughtful playing.

Every visual detail is carefully chosen and perfectly executed. Macassar ebony bindings frame the body, fingerboard, and headstock with clean precision. Cross-grain Cocobolo purfling runs along the top and through the radial rosette, tying the design together with subtle sophistication.
