This Vintage 1973 Martin D-28 is a superb example of Martin’s legendary dreadnought craftsmanship, offering powerful projection, rich harmonic depth, and the unmistakable tone that has defined generations of acoustic music. Built with a traditional dovetail neck joint and a D-14 fret body, this guitar delivers the balanced response and headroom players expect from a true vintage Martin.
The Sitka spruce top is paired with scalloped 5/16" Sitka spruce bracing, producing a resonant, dynamic voice that has opened up beautifully over time. The guitar shows normal play wear, including dings and light scratches, consistent with its age, but it has clearly been well cared for and has aged gracefully.
A recent professional neck reset by J Gravity Strings ensures excellent playability and long-term stability. The mahogany neck features a comfortable 25.4" scale length, a 1 11/16" nut width, and an ebony fingerboard with classic dot inlays. The ebony belly bridge with a drop-in saddle provides reliable intonation and tone transfer.
Tasteful vintage-style appointments include multi-stripe rosette and top inlay, cream binding, Style 28 back strip, and Grover tuning machines. The black pickguard is a non-original Martin replacement. The guitar weighs in at a comfortable 4 lbs 9 oz and includes a hardshell case.
Overall, this is a wonderful opportunity to own a professionally serviced vintage Martin D-28 that plays beautifully, sounds inspiring, and is ready for many more decades of music.
