Santa Cruz luthier Christopher Holcomb learned his craft from some of the most respected names in guitar building, including Scott Walker, Rick Turner, Jeff Traugott, and Richard Hoover. That foundation shows in every instrument he makes, spanning solid bodies, acoustics, archtops, and resophonics, each one voiced with the player in mind.
The Kodiak Resonator
Holcomb's flagship model is a genuinely original take on the modern dobro. Unlike traditional resonators, the Kodiak features a radiused top and back, tapered sides, and a neck built from the heel up for consistent intonation, design choices that allow thinner tonewoods and let the wood itself shape the voice. Holcomb builds exclusively with solid wood, not laminate, believing it adds energy and character, and one listen confirms it. Kodiaks have been built in flamed maple, claro walnut, "The Tree" mahogany, and Brazilian rosewood, with premium appointments like Righteous Sounds pickups, Beard spidercone bridges, and custom acid-etched hardware.
