In the world of modern acoustic guitar building, few names carry the quiet authority and reverence of Kevin Ryan. Working from his California workshop for decades, Ryan has pursued a vision that blends refined artistry with fearless innovation. Long before many contemporary builders began experimenting with structural engineering and ergonomic design, Ryan was already exploring ways to coax more resonance, balance, and comfort from the acoustic guitar. His instruments are played by some of the world’s most discerning musicians, yet each one still carries the unmistakable feeling of a personal work of art shaped by a single craftsman’s philosophy. The Mojave Series Nightingale Grand Soloist stands as a vivid expression of that lifelong pursuit.

This particular Nightingale Grand Soloist was unveiled at NAMM 2026, a fitting stage for an instrument that feels both forward thinking and timeless. Its voice begins with a limited Engelmann spruce top, chosen for its responsive character and its ability to bloom with nuance under even the lightest touch. Beneath the strings, Ryan’s celebrated Innovation Suite works quietly and elegantly. The EO bracing system, acoustic honeycomb core, titanium bridge pins, and A5 racing stripe kerfed liner work together to create a structure that is astonishingly light yet immensely powerful. The result is a guitar that breathes with extraordinary clarity and sustain, every note expanding outward with warmth and composure.

The back and sides are crafted from limited spalted maple, a wood whose natural patterns feel almost like desert wind etched into stone. Each figure is unique, alive with flowing lines and organic contrasts that turn the instrument into a visual landscape. Ebony binding frames the body with deep elegance, while luminous Black Tahitian pearl purfling traces the soundboard, back, sides, and headstock with flashes of dark iridescence. At the center rests the Arts and Crafts rosette, an intricate composition of agave green and Black Tahitian pearl that echoes the architecture and spirit of the American Southwest.

The artistry continues along the fingerboard, where the Arts and Crafts Southwest arches inlay in agave green and Black Tahitian pearl flows gracefully toward the headstock. There, a geometric Arts and Crafts squares inlay anchors the design, joined by Ryan’s agave green R logo set with shimmering Black Tahitian pearl MicroPearl. Even the truss rod cover carries its own delicate purfling of Black Tahitian pearl, a reminder that every surface of this guitar has been given thoughtful attention.

Ryan’s dedication to the player is just as evident in the feel of the instrument. The Ryan ergonomic bevel with flutes invites the arm to settle naturally against the body, making long hours of playing feel effortless. The Ryan micro adjustable truss rod system ensures precise control over the neck, while Gotoh Super 510 black chrome machine heads with Cosmo Black buttons and the embossed R logo offer smooth, confident tuning stability. With a 1.75 inch nut width, 2.25 inch bridge spacing, and a 25.7 inch scale length, the Nightingale Grand Soloist feels both expansive and intimate in the hands.

Despite its remarkable sonic power, the instrument weighs a mere 4 pounds 15 ounces, a testament to the thoughtful engineering that defines Kevin Ryan’s work. The entire guitar feels alive, responsive to every nuance of touch and every shift of intention. It arrives protected in a Calton flight case, ready for travel, performance, and the many musical journeys that lie ahead.

The Mojave Series Nightingale Grand Soloist is more than a guitar. It is a meeting point between art, engineering, and the wide open landscapes that inspired its design. In Kevin Ryan’s hands, wood and pearl become a living voice, one that sings with clarity, depth, and a quiet sense of wonder.
