The Huss & Dalton FS Deep Body Custom is a striking expression of what happens when a great shop gives its craftspeople the freedom to follow their own vision. As part of the Crafters Select Series, each instrument is conceived by an individual member of the Huss & Dalton team, bringing a personal touch and unique perspective to every build. This particular guitar was designed by Henry, Huss & Dalton’s finish and buffing expert, whose eye for elegance and detail is on full display from every angle.
Built around the FS body shape with an added deep body dimension, this guitar delivers a voice that is rich, expansive, and beautifully balanced. The Red Spruce top provides tremendous headroom and clarity, responding with power when driven hard while retaining remarkable sensitivity to a lighter touch. Paired with stunning Ziricote back and sides, the result is a tone that is both bold and refined, with deep, piano-like lows, sparkling highs, and a complex overtone character that keeps every note alive.
The deepened body depth of 4 7/8" gives this FS an even fuller and more resonant sound than the standard model. At 15 1/4" wide and 20" long, it feels comfortable in the lap while producing the kind of rich, room-filling voice usually associated with a larger guitar. The 25.4" scale length adds snap and definition, making it equally at home for fingerstyle work, flatpicking, or open tunings.
Henry’s finishing background shines through in every visual detail. The dramatic grain patterns of the Ziricote are framed by curly maple bindings on the body, fretboard, and headstock, creating a beautiful contrast against the darker woods. A blue paua rosette surrounds the soundhole with flashes of iridescent color, while matching blue paua side dots along the bass side of the fingerboard provide a subtle but distinctive custom touch. The classic zipper backstrip and black/white/black top purfling complete the vintage-inspired aesthetic.
The Honduran mahogany neck offers a familiar, comfortable feel, joined by a Ziricote fingerboard and bridge that tie the entire design together. A 1 3/4" nut width and 2 5/16" saddle spacing make this guitar especially inviting for fingerstyle players, giving the fretting and picking hands plenty of room without ever feeling oversized.
Premium appointments continue throughout, including an ebony headstock veneer and smooth, precise gold Gotoh 510 tuning machines.
