The Froggy Bottom Model K Limited Plus is a remarkable meeting of history, artistry, and uncompromising craftsmanship. Built in the small Vermont workshop where master luthier Michael Millard has refined his craft for more than five decades, this instrument reflects the quiet confidence of a builder whose reputation has been earned one extraordinary guitar at a time. Since founding Froggy Bottom Guitars over 50 years ago, Millard has pursued a singular vision: creating instruments that deliver exceptional tonal depth while embodying timeless elegance.

At the heart of this Limited Plus Model K is a breathtaking 1876 vintage German spruce top, a piece of wood whose story began nearly a century and a half ago. The wood’s age and rarity bring an immediate responsiveness and remarkable clarity, producing a voice that is open, articulate, and deeply resonant. Paired with stunning 5A Madagascar rosewood back and sides, the tonal palette expands with lush overtones, piano-like bass response, and shimmering high-end detail. The dramatic black top finish gives the guitar a bold and sophisticated presence, beautifully framed by curly maple bindings and delicate mother of pearl appointments.

Every visual detail reflects a level of artistry rarely encountered. Intricate engraved mother of pearl inlays by master engraver Glenn Carson elevate the instrument into the realm of fine art. The #7 Fleur de Lis fingerboard inlay flows gracefully along the ebony fingerboard, while Carson’s engraved frog logo adorns the bound headstock with remarkable precision and character. Mother of pearl purfling across the top border, rosette, fingerboard extension, and backstrip adds refined luminosity, catching the light with subtle elegance.

The guitar’s structure has been thoughtfully shaped for both comfort and performance. A Honduran mahogany neck with a custom .850 inch carve at the first fret offers a substantial yet inviting feel, paired with a 20 inch fingerboard radius, 1 3/4 inch nut width, and 2 5/16 inch bridge spacing for effortless playability. The custom shallow body depth, measuring 3 1/4 inches at the heel and 3 7/8 inches at the tail, provides exceptional comfort while maintaining the full-bodied projection the Model K is known for.

An ebony pyramid bridge, ebony fingerboard, and ebony headstock veneer maintain tonal focus and visual continuity, while high ratio nickel Waverly 14060 tuning machines ensure smooth, precise tuning stability. Details such as ebony bridge and end pins with mother of pearl dots, an imitation tortoise pickguard, and the included John Pearse 80/20 strings round out a build defined by meticulous attention to every element.

Despite its luxurious appointments and rich tonal complexity, the guitar remains incredibly lively at just 4 pounds 4 ounces. The result is an instrument that feels alive in the hands, responding instantly to the player’s touch with remarkable sensitivity and balance.

Housed in a Black American Vintage Series TKL case, this Froggy Bottom Model K Limited Plus stands as a rare expression of Millard’s enduring legacy. With its historic tonewood, masterful engraving, and unmistakable voice, it is not simply a guitar, but a piece of living lutherie history.
