Nik Huber Electric Basses — Rodgau's Finest, Down to Earth
Nik Huber began building guitars in 1993 in his father's woodworking room in Rodgau, a small town twenty kilometers south of Frankfurt, Germany. He comes from four generations of woodworkers, grew up playing and touring as a musician, and has spent thirty years building on that dual foundation to produce instruments that players and dealers consistently place among the finest boutique electric guitars made anywhere in the world. His team of highly skilled luthiers builds around 350 instruments a year in Rodgau, with an ethos that has never wavered: better, better, better, not more, more, more.
When Nik finally introduced a bass, it was the first in the catalog's history, and it arrived with the full weight of that thirty-year standard behind it. The Rietbergen Bass is named after Dutch bassist and multi-instrumentalist Job Rietbergen, known internationally for his work with Armin van Buuren, and it reflects everything the Nik Huber name has always stood for: exceptional tonewoods, meticulous German craftsmanship, and a playing experience that speaks for itself the moment the instrument is in your hands.
The Rietbergen Bass
Nik Huber describes the Rietbergen Bass with characteristic directness: stripped of everything except exactly what you need, the essence of groove and rock. A single powerful custom P-Bass pickup. Volume and tone. A 32-inch medium scale that sits between the warmth of a short-scale and the snap of a long-scale instrument. Maple top over ash back, with curly maple neck options in both standard and exceptional grade figured configurations. A round neck carve that sits naturally in the hand from the first note. Snakewood or rosewood fretboard options. Hipshot bridge and tuners. Bone nut. Twenty medium jumbo frets. A hardshell case. Nothing missing, nothing superfluous.
The finish options run from Worn Onyx, the most austere and visually focused expression of the design, to the exceptional grade curly maple top in Hierbas Yellow, a spectacular figured instrument that makes clear there is no limit to how beautiful a fundamentally simple bass can be. Every finish is applied by hand to the same standard that goes into every Nik Huber guitar, because the Rietbergen Bass is not a side project or a catalog afterthought. It is a Nik Huber instrument, built to the same standard as everything else that leaves Rodgau.
The Michael League Signature Prototype, unveiled at NAMM 2025 and available in Natural finish, represents the most fully specified version of the Rietbergen platform yet, co-developed with the Snarky Puppy bassist and producer whose relationship with the Nik Huber workshop goes back years and whose ear for tone is among the most trusted in contemporary music.
