Fender Electric Basses — The Bass Guitar Invented Here

In 1951, Leo Fender introduced the Precision Bass, the first commercially successful solid-body electric bass guitar ever made. Before it existed, bass players carried upright double basses to every gig, instruments that were difficult to amplify, difficult to transport, and demanded years of technique to play in tune. The Precision Bass changed all of that in a single stroke, and in doing so changed popular music permanently.

In 1960 the Jazz Bass followed, bringing a slimmer neck, offset waist body, and dual single-coil pickups that produced a brighter, more articulate voice ideal for soloing and melodic playing. The two designs between them have defined the electric bass for over six decades, and every other bass format is a response to or evolution from what Fender established with those two instruments.

Today, building across four production tiers and a world-class Custom Shop, Fender produces basses for every level of player, from the first-time bassist to the touring professional who demands the finest American-made instrument available.

The Collections

American Professional II — The definitive working professional Fender bass, built in Corona, California with lightweight alder bodies, deep C-profile maple necks, and V-Mod II pickups developed by the Custom Shop team. Available in Precision and Jazz configurations in four and five-string variants. The bass that working professionals reach for when they need absolute reliability and the definitive Fender voice night after night.

American Vintage II — The most faithful vintage reissue series Fender has ever produced, built from period-correct specifications sourced directly from original factory records. The 1954 Precision Bass, 1960 Precision Bass, and 1966 Jazz Bass are among the most accurate recreations ever made, indistinguishable from the originals in playing feel and tonal character.

American Ultra — Fender's most technologically advanced production bass, featuring Ultra Noiseless pickups, a compound radius fingerboard, and a sculpted heel joint that provides the best upper-register access available on any bolt-on Fender bass.

Vintera II — Vintage-specification basses spanning the 1950s through 1970s, with period-correct neck profiles, pickups, and hardware that capture each decade's sonic character. Built in Mexico to a standard that consistently impresses at its price point.

Player II — The most versatile and accessible series in the lineup, built in Mexico with modern C-profile necks, 9.5-inch radius fingerboards with rolled edges, and Alnico V pickups that deliver the full Fender tonal palette at an accessible price. Available in Precision, Jazz, and Mustang Bass PJ configurations.

MonoNeon Jazz Bass — Developed with the boundary-pushing Nashville bassist whose work with Prince made him one of the most talked-about players of his generation. Among the most visually distinctive signature basses Fender has ever produced.

Steve Harris Precision Bass — Built for players who need the fundamental, driving punch of a classic P-bass in a stage-ready configuration, co-developed with the Iron Maiden bassist whose galloping lines have driven the band for nearly fifty years.

Pino Palladino Jazz Bass — A fretless instrument built in collaboration with one of the most recorded session bassists in the world, capturing his signature warm and melodic tone.
