Epiphone Electric Basses — Gibson Heritage, Player's Price
Epiphone's bass story begins in 1957 when Gibson acquired the brand, and it has been building iconic bass designs ever since. The Thunderbird, introduced in 1963, became one of the most visually striking and tonally distinctive bass designs in rock history. The Embassy followed, then the Newport, and eventually a collaboration with Jack Casady of Jefferson Airplane that produced one of the most beloved signature basses ever made. Today, as a Gibson-owned brand building instruments that carry the full weight of that heritage at accessible price points, Epiphone offers a bass lineup that covers virtually every corner of the market from first instrument to serious stage weapon.
The Models
Thunderbird — The flagship of the Epiphone bass lineup and one of the most recognizable bass shapes ever produced. The reverse body design, dual humbuckers, and deeply resonant mahogany construction produce a bold, powerful, bottom-heavy voice that has been central to rock and metal music since the 1960s. Available in standard Thunderbird IV and vintage-correct Thunderbird '64 configurations, and in the Thunderbird IV Reverse with classic reverse body styling.
Jack Casady Signature — Designed in direct collaboration with the Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna bassist over years of experimentation, the Jack Casady is unlike anything else in the Epiphone lineup. A semi-hollow maple body, low-impedance JCB-1 humbucker, and a three-position Varitone control produce a warm, woody, harmonically rich voice that sits beautifully in any musical context from jazz to rock. Jack Casady himself plays this bass, and has for decades. It is one of the finest semi-hollow bass instruments available at any price.
Embassy Bass — Originally introduced in 1963 and brought back by popular demand, the Embassy pairs an asymmetrical mahogany double-cutaway body with a 34-inch scale mahogany neck and dual humbuckers for a thick, muscular voice that handles everything from classic rock to modern heavy music.
Newport — A short-scale bass with a distinctive batwing headstock and a warm, round voice that makes it immediately comfortable for players transitioning from guitar or simply preferring a lighter, more responsive playing experience. Available in a range of finishes including Pacific Blue, Cherry, and Natural.
Grabber Bass — A much-requested reissue of the vintage 1970s Gibson Grabber, now available as both a standard model and a Mike Dirnt Grabber G-3 Signature, developed with the Green Day bassist whose driving melodic bass lines have powered some of the most recognizable rock records of the last thirty years.
Rex Brown Signature — Co-designed with the legendary Pantera and Down bassist, the Rex Brown Signature is built for players who need aggression, power, and the kind of low-end authority that heavy music demands.
Viola Bass — Epiphone's tribute to one of the most recognizable bass designs of the British Invasion era, with a distinctive violin-shaped body and woody, warm tone that has been associated with melodic bass playing since the early 1960s.
