O'Gorman Acoustic Guitars — Cornish Brilliance, Built for Every Sense
Brendan O'Gorman grew up playing guitar in bands across Cornwall, developing the kind of deep, physical relationship with the instrument that only comes from years of actually using it. When his love of woodworking led him to fine furniture making, he trained at David Savage's prestigious Rowden Atelier, one of the most respected cabinet making schools in the UK, before completing specialized guitar making courses that gave him the technical foundation to bring both passions together. He set up his workshop in Redruth, Cornwall, and hasn't looked back since.
The whole ethos behind O'Gorman Guitars began with a single idea: to engage all the senses of the player. Not just the sound, though the sound is extraordinary. The design, the ergonomics, the touch and feel of the wood, the scent of the tonewoods, the comfort when held, the visual coherence of every appointment and detail. Brendan plans each commission from the very beginning with all of this in mind, which is why players who receive an O'Gorman guitar tend to describe the experience as unlike any instrument they have ever held.
Every O'Gorman is built entirely by hand in Redruth, entirely by Brendan, from the first cut of wood through to the final setup. No two are alike. Each one is the product of a genuine collaboration between builder and player, shaped by a conversation about playing style, tonal priorities, and the kind of instrument the player has always wanted but never quite found.
The Models
Moir — Pronounced "moy-er," the Moir is Brendan's take on the Orchestra Model, with a wider lower bout that, combined with a tight waist and narrow upper bout, produces a rounder, warmer tone than a standard OM while retaining the midrange clarity and sparkling treble response the format is famous for. Available with a 12 or 13-fret neck-to-body join, pushing the bridge further into what Brendan calls the sweet spot of the lower bout for improved resonance and tonal balance. The Moir has been built with tonewoods including Swiss Moon Spruce tops over Pau Ferro back and sides, with bindings in Turquoise Maple and Evo Gold fret ends for players who want an instrument as beautiful to look at as it is to play.
Newlands — Brendan's interpretation of the dreadnought format, with a tighter waist that adds warmth and shapes the midrange into something more focused and refined than the standard square-shoulder design. The Newlands is a big-sounding instrument with great presence as a solo guitar while sitting beautifully behind a voice, occupying space in the mix without competing with it. Bold, powerful, and built for players who need a guitar that fills a room.
Heirloom Quality, Every Time
Brendan's background in fine furniture making is visible in every O'Gorman guitar, in the precision of the joinery, the quality of the finish, the coherence of the visual design, and the attention paid to the inside of the instrument as much as the outside. These are guitars built to be handed down. The quality of his work has drawn comparisons to instruments costing several times the price, and the players who have found him tend to stay found.
