The Paul Reed Smith Mark Holcomb in Cobalt Smokeburst is a precision-crafted instrument built for articulate aggression, progressive complexity, and uncompromising clarity. Designed in collaboration with Mark Holcomb, this signature model reflects his demand for tight low-end response, crystalline note separation, and refined playability—especially in lower tunings. The result is a modern PRS that blends boutique elegance with cutting-edge performance.

Constructed as a solidbody with a striking mango top over a mahogany back, this guitar delivers both visual distinction and tonal authority. The violin carve enhances resonance and comfort, while the satin nitro finish in Cobalt Smokeburst provides a smooth, organic feel that allows the wood to breathe and resonate naturally. The satin black hardware completes the sleek, contemporary aesthetic.

The one-piece maple neck is carved to Mark Holcomb’s custom profile, offering a substantial yet fast feel. Measuring 53/64" at the 1/2 fret and 57/64" at the 12 1/2 fret, with a nut width of 1 11/16" and 2 1/4" at the body, the neck is designed for precision across all 24 frets. The 25.5" scale length adds string tension and clarity—ideal for articulate riffing and drop tunings. A 20" radius ebony fretboard provides a remarkably flat, modern playing surface that supports effortless bends and technical accuracy. PRS Birds inlays adorn the fretboard, while the ebony headstock veneer features an inlaid signature logo and a truss rod cover marked “Mark Holcomb,” reinforcing its signature pedigree. The set neck construction enhances sustain and seamless upper-fret access, and a PRS double-acting truss rod ensures reliable adjustability.

At the heart of this model are Mark Holcomb’s signature Seymour Duncan pickups: the “Scourge” in the treble position and the “Scarlet” in the bass position. The Scourge bridge pickup is voiced for tight, percussive attack with controlled aggression and clear high-end definition, while the Scarlet neck pickup offers warmth and depth without sacrificing note separation. Together, they deliver exceptional clarity under high gain while retaining dynamic responsiveness for clean passages. A master volume and tone control paired with a 5-way blade switch unlock a versatile range of tones, from crushing rhythm textures to glassy cleans.

The PRS plate-style string-through bridge maximizes sustain and tuning stability, complemented by PRS Phase III locking tuners with wing buttons for quick, precise string changes. A PRS nut and factory-installed PRS Signature 10-52 strings are optimized for the guitar’s intended Drop-C tuning (C, G, C, F, A, D), ensuring balanced tension and tonal integrity straight from the case.

Delivered in a premium hardshell case, the PRS Mark Holcomb in Cobalt Smokeburst stands as a refined yet formidable instrument—crafted for players who demand technical precision, sonic clarity, and modern performance in every detail.
