The 2019 Fender Custom Shop GT11 1963 Telecaster Heavy Relic in Aged Sonic Blue is the kind of instrument that feels like it has already lived a lifetime on stage. It carries the soul of early 60s Fender design but with the kind of precision and refinement only the Fender Custom Shop can deliver.
The roasted alder body keeps the weight down to a comfortable 7 lbs 7 oz while adding a touch of extra resonance and stability. Finished in nitrocellulose lacquer and treated to a full Heavy Relic treatment, the Aged Sonic Blue has beautifully checked lacquer, worn edges, and hardware that looks like it has seen decades of bar gigs and studio sessions. It feels broken in from the first chord.
The 3A roasted flamed maple neck is a standout. The roasting process adds stability and a slightly darker visual character that pairs perfectly with the relic aesthetic. Carved into a 60s Style Oval C, it measures .820 at the first fret and .890 at the twelfth, landing in that sweet spot between vintage comfort and modern playability. The 11 inch radius and 21 Narrow Tall 6105 frets make bending effortless while still retaining a distinctly classic feel under the fingers. The 3A rosewood fingerboard adds warmth and snap in equal measure.
Under the hood, handwound 51 Nocaster single coils deliver everything you want from a great Tele. The bridge pickup bites with authority, clear and cutting without getting harsh. The neck pickup is round and woody, perfect for blues lines and smoky rhythm work. The vintage Tele bridge and tuning machines keep the tone authentic and the tuning solid. Modern Tele wiring with a reverse control plate offers intuitive volume swells and a slightly more player friendly layout without compromising character.
This GT11 captures the magic of a 1963 Telecaster but adds subtle upgrades that working players appreciate. It looks like a veteran, plays like a dream, and sounds exactly the way a great Tele should. If you are after a Custom Shop piece that balances vibe, tone, and reliability, this one checks every box.
