Few modern acoustic builders have achieved the reputation for refinement and tonal balance that James Goodall has cultivated through decades of meticulous craftsmanship. The 2003 Goodall Concert Jumbo is a wonderful example of that legacy. Elegant, responsive, and unmistakably musical, this instrument captures the open, piano-like voice that has made Goodall guitars beloved among discerning players.

At the heart of this Concert Jumbo is a beautifully aged Engelmann spruce top paired with richly grained Indian rosewood back and sides. Engelmann spruce is prized for its quick response and shimmering overtone content, and after more than two decades of natural aging this top has opened up remarkably, delivering warmth, depth, and exceptional dynamic sensitivity. The Indian rosewood body adds depth and harmonic complexity, giving the guitar a lush low end and sparkling highs while maintaining the balanced clarity that defines the Concert Jumbo design.

Visually, the instrument is just as inspiring as it is sonically. Figured koa body and headstock bindings frame the guitar with a touch of Hawaiian elegance, while an abalone rosette provides a subtle flash of color around the soundhole. An ebony headstock veneer complements the ebony fingerboard and bridge, where ebony bridge pins with mother-of-pearl dots provide a classic finishing touch. The satin-finished mahogany neck feels smooth and effortless in the hand, paired with a comfortable 1 3/4" nut width, 2 1/4" bridge spacing, and a full 25.5" scale length that offers excellent clarity and articulation across the fretboard.

Premium hardware rounds out the build, including Schaller M6 Mini tuning machines fitted with ebony buttons, along with a bone nut and saddle for optimal resonance and sustain. Despite its robust tonal presence, the guitar remains incredibly comfortable at just 4 lbs 7 oz.

Though previously owned, this 2003 Goodall Concert Jumbo remains in excellent condition and has matured into an extraordinarily expressive instrument. With its voice beautifully opened up and its craftsmanship evident in every detail, it stands as a superb example of the artistry and musicality that continue to define the work of James Goodall.
