The Taylor GS Mini-e Koa Plus is proof that small guitars do not have to think small. Bob Taylor built his company on the idea that smart design and modern precision could make guitars more consistent, more playable, and more musical for real working players. The GS Mini is one of his biggest success stories, a compact acoustic that feels effortless in the hands but delivers a voice that punches far above its size.
This GS Mini-e is built in the familiar GS Mini shape with a 23-1/2 inch scale length that makes it incredibly comfortable to play, whether you are on the couch, in the studio, or on the road. The layered koa back and sides paired with Taylor’s X-bracing give it a warm, focused tone with plenty of clarity and a little of that natural koa sparkle on top. The koa also looks fantastic under the thin varnish finish, giving the guitar a rich, organic glow without choking the resonance.
The top, back, and sides all wear a light varnish finish, which helps the guitar stay lively and responsive while keeping weight down. At just 3 pounds 12 ounces, this thing is shockingly light and easy to carry, especially in the included Taylor Aerocase. The body dimensions, 17 5/8 inches long, 14 3/8 inches wide, and 4 7/16 inches deep, give it a big-sounding footprint without ever feeling bulky.
Playability is classic Taylor. The tropical mahogany neck with a scarf joint, a 1-11/16 inch nut width, and an ebony fretboard makes fretting easy and clean all the way up the 20 frets. Nubone nut and Micarta saddle keep things consistent and stable, and Taylor’s nickel tuners hold tuning exactly where you put it. Elixir Phosphor Bronze Medium strings come stock, which pair perfectly with the GS Mini’s punchy, articulate voice.
Plug it in and the Expression System 2 electronics capture the natural character of the guitar beautifully, making this a legit stage and recording tool, not just a travel companion.
Simple, clean, and purpose-built, from the three-ring rosette to the black heel cap binding and black bridge pins, everything here is focused on tone, feel, and reliability. Bob Taylor’s vision of building guitars that make people want to play more is alive and well in the GS Mini-e Koa Plus. It is compact, gorgeous, and endlessly musical, the kind of guitar you grab every day because it just feels right.
