Collings D2H-T Baked Sitka Spruce & Indian Rosewood

I’ve played a lot of guitars in my time, but nothing has quite captured my heart the way the Collings D2H T has. From the moment I strummed the first chord, it was like meeting up with an old friend—comfortable, familiar, and full of soul. But make no mistake, this guitar is anything but ordinary.

The Indian rosewood back and sides? They’re the perfect complement. The depth of the bass is lush, almost orchestral, while the mids are balanced and articulate. Together, these tonewoods make the D2H T feel alive—like it’s listening to you, and responding to exactly what you need in the moment.

Collings is known for their impeccable craftsmanship, and this guitar is no exception. The traditional build style brings out a vintage vibe, but with all the advantages of modern construction. The neck is unbelievably comfortable. It’s got just the right amount of heft to feel solid, but with a slimness that makes transitions smooth and fast. The fretwork is flawless, and the setup out of the box was perfect—action low enough for easy playability, but not so low that you lose any tone.

And then there’s the aesthetic: this guitar is stunning. The grain of the baked Sitka spruce top has a gorgeous, almost honeyed glow, while the Indian rosewood back and sides have this deep, rich color that adds a sense of elegance. Every inch of this guitar, from the herringbone purfling to the beautifully sculpted headstock, exudes class and craftsmanship.

The way the notes decay just long enough, the responsiveness to both light and aggressive playing styles, the balance when sitting or standing—everything feels thought through.
