The Gibson Custom Shop PSL Mid 60’s EDS-1275 VOS Ebony Fretboard – Ebony is a masterful recreation of one of the most iconic and visually striking instruments ever to emerge from Gibson’s storied past. Famous for its commanding double-neck design and legendary association with rock’s most expressive players, this EDS-1275 captures the mid-’60s aesthetic, tone, and feel with meticulous accuracy and Custom Shop craftsmanship. It’s more than a guitar—it’s a statement piece built to perform at the highest level while paying tribute to an era when innovation met musical ambition.
The body is carved from a single piece of solid mahogany, lending the instrument exceptional resonance, warmth, and sustain. Finished in nitrocellulose lacquer, it possesses that unmistakable vintage sheen and open tonal response that only nitro can provide, allowing the wood to breathe and age gracefully over time. Its unmistakable EDS-1275 body shape exudes timeless elegance and rock authority, making it instantly recognizable on any stage.
The dual necks—crafted from solid mahogany—are shaped with authentic mid-’60s profiles for a perfectly balanced feel across both configurations. The six-string neck features a comfortable .890” to 1.0” taper, while the twelve-string neck sports a slightly fuller .910” to 1.02” profile, ensuring both playability and strength where it matters most. Each neck shares the classic 24.75" scale length, maintaining that unmistakable Gibson tone and tension that players expect.
Topping both necks is a luxurious ebony fingerboard—a premium touch rarely seen on the originals. With a 12" radius and 20 authentic medium-jumbo frets, this fretboard delivers smooth playability and precise intonation across both setups. The celluloid split parallelogram inlays provide a vintage-correct visual flair, while the Corian nut and Gibson Deluxe double-ring tuners ensure tuning stability and a classic look from headstock to body.
Every hardware detail has been carefully executed to replicate the vintage originals. The ABR-1 bridges, nickel 6/12 tailpieces, and nickel-plated pickup covers complement the instrument’s vintage aesthetic and tonal purity. A black 5-ply pickguard, M69 mounting rings, black top hat knobs with silver inserts, and black control covers complete the sophisticated monochrome look.
Electronics are true to form, featuring a pair of Custombucker Alnico III pickups (unpotted) for both necks. These hand-wound humbuckers deliver the articulate, airy midrange and warm, open dynamics that made the original PAFs legendary. The Switchcraft toggle and EDS-1275-specific selector allow seamless switching between the 6-string and 12-string necks or blending both for a massive, harmonically rich sound that’s instantly recognizable.
Every element of the Gibson Custom Shop PSL Mid 60’s EDS-1275 VOS has been crafted to capture the tone, feel, and presence of a golden-era double-neck—right down to its nickel VOS (Vintage Original Spec) finish, which imparts a gently aged patina that feels broken-in from day one. Whether used for soaring anthems, layered textures, or virtuosic stage performances, this EDS-1275 embodies the spirit of Gibson’s most ambitious innovation, offering players an instrument of unmatched sonic depth, playability, and visual impact.
