The James Tyler JTG MK1 is a modern, high-performance electric guitar that pays homage to the legendary James Tyler Studio Elite HD, delivering boutique craftsmanship and exceptional playability in a production-friendly format. Designed for discerning players who demand tonal versatility, top-tier feel, and cutting-edge electronics, the MK1 bridges the gap between classic design and contemporary innovation.
At its core, the JTG MK1 features a resonant 2-piece alder body, chosen for its balanced tonal character and weight. It’s matched with a Canadian maple neck, carved into Tyler’s renowned STD 59 profile—measuring .850" at the 1st fret and .980" at the 12th—offering a substantial yet comfortable feel. The Indian rosewood fretboard is enhanced with Tyler’s signature rolled edges, providing a broken-in feel right out of the case, and a compound radius of 10"–14" allows for easy chording down low and effortless bending up top. Navigation is aided by classy white mother of pearl dots and high-visibility Luminlay side markers for dark-stage precision.
Fretwork is handled by Jescar 51100 medium-jumbo frets (.100” x .051”), which offer a smooth, durable playing surface for everything from vintage-inspired phrasing to modern shred techniques. A 42mm bone nut contributes to the guitar’s clear articulation and sustain.
Under the hood, the JTG MK1 is loaded with a custom-voiced HSS pickup configuration. The JTG5000 single coils in the neck and middle positions (with the middle being reverse-wound/reverse-polarity for hum-cancelling in positions 2 and 4) deliver classic clarity and warmth, while the powerful JTG Super humbucker in the bridge automatically splits in combined positions for single-coil sparkle, offering a seamless tonal transition across the 5-way switch. Tone shaping is made even more versatile thanks to a unique JTG custom midboost circuit with bypass: delivering a 2dB bump at 150Hz and 450Hz, it also incorporates a low-pass filter (4.5kHz, 25dB/octave) to fatten leads or thicken rhythm parts without compromising clarity. Control-wise, the guitar features CTS 500k volume and 250k tone pots for the perfect balance of brightness and warmth.
Hardware is equally refined. The 2-post custom JTG vibrato bridge ensures smooth and stable pitch control, while the custom JTG locking tuners provide rock-solid tuning stability and fast string changes. Dome knobs keep the aesthetic sleek and familiar, and the instrument ships with D’Addario 10–46 strings, ready for stage or studio.
Each James Tyler JTG MK1 comes in a deluxe hard case, ensuring protection and a professional presentation. Whether you’re chasing vintage tone, modern precision, or a hybrid of both, the MK1 delivers with style, power, and unmistakable Tyler feel.
