The Collings 01 T – Baked Sitka Spruce & Mahogany is a masterful distillation of acoustic guitar tradition, elevated by the legacy of Bill Collings, one of the most influential luthiers of the modern era. Renowned for his relentless pursuit of perfection, Bill brought a level of precision and tonal excellence to boutique guitar building that reshaped the landscape. The Traditional Series, to which this 01 T belongs, represents the culmination of Collings' decades-long quest to capture the warmth, responsiveness, and soul of pre-war acoustics—while maintaining the unrivaled craftsmanship that has become the company’s hallmark.
This particular model features a baked Sitka spruce top paired with Honduran mahogany back and sides, delivering a rich, dry, and articulate voice with exceptional clarity and warmth. The Traditional Build and Voicing Construction includes custom scalloped X-bracing without a tongue brace, using Sitka spruce braces, all finely tuned to maximize top responsiveness and vintage tonal character. The Honduran mahogany neck is shaped to a Traditional neck profile and joined with a mortise and tenon hybrid neck joint, offering both stability and a natural, resonant connection to the body.
Aesthetically, the guitar is both understated and elegant—featuring tortoise body binding, a custom wood rosette, and B/W/B/W purfling around the top. The ebony fingerboard and belly bridge, adorned with gold mother-of-pearl dot inlays and a matching MOP Collings logo on the ebony headstock veneer, add a touch of refined luxury. It’s finished in a high-gloss nitrocellulose lacquer for the body and polyester resin for the neck, ensuring durability without sacrificing resonance.
With nickel Waverly tuning machines, a tortoise pickguard, 1 3/4” nut width, 2 5/16” bridge spacing, and a 24 7/8” scale length, the 01 T offers exceptional playability for fingerstyle and flatpicking alike. At just 3 lbs 10 oz, it’s feather-light yet full of tone, making it a joy to play for hours. Housed in a quality hardshell case, the Collings 01 T isn’t just a guitar—it’s a love letter to the golden era of acoustic craftsmanship, brought to life by one of its greatest modern interpreters.
