The Atkin D37 is a powerhouse dreadnought that channels the golden era of acoustic guitar tone, precision-built by one of today’s most revered luthiers, Alister Atkin. Known for capturing the voice and feel of vintage instruments with uncanny accuracy, Atkin has earned a loyal following among serious players and collectors alike. The D37 is his nod to the iconic pre-war dreadnought—bold, resonant, and full of character—but built with modern integrity and playability at its core.
This guitar features a baked Adirondack spruce top, torrefied to mimic the tone and responsiveness of a well-loved vintage top, paired with warm, full-bodied East Indian rosewood back and sides. The result is a lush, room-filling voice with sparkling highs, pronounced lows, and a clear, articulate midrange—perfect for everything from flatpicking to singer-songwriter strumming. Pre-war scalloped bracing inside enhances the top’s flexibility and projection, while a zipper-style backstrip, grained ivoroid binding, and herringbone purfling complete the vintage-inspired look.
The mahogany neck is smooth and responsive in the hand, topped with an ebony fingerboard that offers fast playability and clarity with every note. The 1 3/4" bone nut, 16" fingerboard radius, and 25.4" scale length give the player a familiar, comfortable platform with excellent string spacing and tension. A two-way truss rod, accessible via the soundhole, ensures long-term adjustability, while nickel Gotoh tuners keep tuning precise and reliable.
Finished in Atkin’s beautifully nuanced age-toned relic gloss nitrocellulose lacquer, the D37 looks and feels like a guitar that’s been loved for decades, right out of the case. With mother-of-pearl fret markers, white celluloid side dots, and a rosewood headstock overlay featuring the understated Atkin decal, this instrument oozes vintage vibe down to the smallest detail. Weighing in at 4 lbs 8 oz and shipped in a rugged Atkin Black case, the D37 is not just a guitar—it’s a time-tested sound brought forward into the hands of today’s discerning player.
