Taylor Custom #21 C14ce B6021 is a striking Grand Auditorium built for the spotlight, created as a special Catch Event and NAMM showpiece that blends rare tonewoods, refined aesthetics, and Taylor’s most modern acoustic engineering. At the heart of this instrument is its extraordinary top of Dark Forest Sinker Century Cypress, a wood recovered after decades beneath water and then carefully seasoned. This process yields a top with remarkable stiffness to weight ratio, quick response, and a complex overtone profile that balances clarity with warmth. Visually, the cypress carries deep, smoky figuring and dramatic coloration that instantly sets this guitar apart from anything on a standard showroom wall.
The Grand Auditorium body shape delivers Taylor’s hallmark versatility, equally comfortable for fingerstyle nuance and powerful strumming. Inside, V Class bracing enhances sustain, volume, and note separation while keeping intonation precise up the neck. A Venetian cutaway gives effortless access to higher frets, and onboard L.R. Baggs Element VTC electronics ensure the guitar’s natural voice translates faithfully on stage or in the studio.
Indian Rosewood back and sides anchor the lively cypress top with depth and harmonic richness, configured in a clean two piece back without a wedge for a classic, uninterrupted look. Gloss finishes across the body highlight the dramatic woods, while figured koa binding with chamfered edges adds a soft visual contour and boutique level craftsmanship. The rosette features a custom single ring with a bound soundhole, reinforcing the guitar’s tailored, one off character.
The neck is carved from neo tropical mahogany in Taylor’s standard profile, paired with a 1 3/4 inch nut width and a 25 1/2 inch scale length for a familiar, comfortable feel across a wide range of playing styles. A satin neck finish keeps movement smooth, while the gloss peghead adds a refined contrast. West African Crelicam ebony is used for the fretboard, bridge, and peghead veneer, giving a sleek, dark frame for the Hawaiian koa element inlays and matching fretboard binding.
Gold Taylor tuners with ebony and koa buttons, a gold strap pin, and bronze end pin complete the upscale hardware set, complemented by stained bone bridge pins and a Black TUSQ nut with a white Micarta saddle. D’Addario XS coated phosphor bronze light strings come standard, keeping the tone lively while offering long lasting performance. At just 4 pounds 10 ounces, the guitar feels remarkably light and resonant in the hands.
Finished with a paddle style peghead, no pickguard or armrest to interrupt the clean lines, and housed in a brown Taylor Deluxe hard shell case, this right handed six string custom instrument bearing stock code M028002118108260000-26C21 stands as a rare, show ready example of what Taylor’s custom shop can achieve when artistry, innovation, and exotic materials converge in a single unforgettable guitar.
