Santa Cruz – Vault H-13 (2024)

Reflecting on his extensive career in lutherie, Santa Cruz Guitar Company founder, Richard Hoover, embarked on creating a new guitar series named the Vault. The name symbolizes the unveiling of Hoover’s private tonewood reserves has been accumulating over the past fifty years, each piece with its own unique story.

In late 2023, Santa Cruz was in the process of crafting a quartet of instruments using a selection of these prized woods for NAMM 2024. The lineup comprises a D model featuring Bryn Athyn Cathedral Brazilian Rosewood back and sides with a Fort Ross Chapel redwood top, an H13 with Ancient Kauri back and sides and a San Lorenzo Purple Sinker Redwood top, a Firefly with micro-flamed Walnut sides and back and an ancient sinker bald Cypress top, and an OM with Master Grade Brazilian Rosewood and an ancient Sitka Spruce top.

This H-13 represents a master class lutherie. Chosen for the top and sides is 45,000 year old Ancient Kauri wood, complimented perfectly by the Purple San Lorenzo Sinker Redwood top. The intricate yet tasteful ornamentation, much of it specially designed for this series, includes a jewel embedded under headstock window, in this case a genuine ruby. The neck, headstock and bridge are all adorned with 14K gold inlays.
