What is it? Does Paul own it? Who's Paul? And why is he all of a sudden embedded with Suhr?
Turns out, it's an amazing lightweight tonewood. And since Suhr is one of the great companies who know this - they have started hitting the bricks with some incredible instruments sporting this lovely wood.
It's snappy but not brittle. It's light but not hollow...
Here's a bit of verbiage we have used in some guitar descriptions regarding the wood:
Paulownia wood is very light, fine-grained, and warp-resistant. It is the fastest-growing hardwood. It is used for chests, boxes, and clogs. The wood is burned to make charcoal for sketching and powder for fireworks, the bark is made into a dye.
And now - it is used to rock. And twang. And bluesing away the night.
We have a bevy of these that just came into our stock...
Transparent Gray, Transparent Vintage Yellow, Transparent Shell Pink, etc. Why all the transparency? Because we have nothing to hide! All jokes aside, the transparent finishes allow the color to shine while not hiding this gorgeous and somewhat understated wood grain. Plus it gives the guitars some throwback nods to the finishes of long ago that are so loved to this day. Sonically speaking, Paulownia is very similar to Swamp Ash. Though consistently much lighter.
Look at this crazy subtle cool grain under that transparent gray finish!
